Black history white ignorance isn’t bliss; black people look alike
Jun 24
I was walking down the street wearing my Malcom X t-shirt and this white girl said, “Hey, I like your Martin Luther King shirt!” While chuckling I replied, “Thanks, this is the Maclom-X edition.”
From out of nowhere my friend shouts, “Dat ain’t Martin Luther King you stupid idiot” She looks back at me, I shrug my shoulders and said, “Well, how could you not recognize Chris Rock. She replied, “Oh yeah! Yeah! That’s it! I thought he looked familiar.”
Definitions:
Ignorance: Lack of knowledge, education or awareness.
Bliss: Extreme happiness; ecstasy.
The moral of the story is: (1) Unless looking like a total idiot gives you an extreme feeling of happiness, ignorance isn’t bliss. (2) ….and no, all black people do not look alike! (3) white ignorance on black history, when will they learn; literally!

When you shared this story I laughed hysterically; oh if I had a nickel for every time I have had that experience…even in 2010!
Remember three years ago I made a request during black history month to do a presentation in your school, (after finding out they did not celebrate it). The person in charge said, We don’t have much blacks here so I don’t think there would be any interest. Most of our kids are white middle to lower class.” Even after I shared with him the racial taunting you had experienced; he still felt there was no need for it. Now if that wasn’t pure ignorance I don’t know what is; far too many people think black history is to be taught only to blacks. Far too many whites like things just the way they are or were.
She doesn’t know because she was never taught; parents, school, friends, media etc.
All schools should have a program where they touch on the history of all cultures around the world; if they really wanted to, they would find a way to work it into the curriculum.
I was force fed white history all though high school, when they got to the part about us, oh my… talk about lies lies and more lies.
Each one, teach one; perhaps the next time you see her you can take the opportunity to educated her and let’s keep it real, many of us blacks are just as guilty of this faux pas.
