Avatar is not the Best Picture its story has been told a million times before
Feb 27
To Oprah, James Cameron and Members of The Academy (Oscars), Avatar is simply the retelling of black history; white man stumbles on land never seen before, white man comes uninvited to said land, rapes land of natural resources never stopping to think about the lives therein. Could someone please tell James Cameron that his imagination is stealing from the history books and films gone by; have we forgotten the film Fern Gully, Pocahontas and Roots? Avatar is nothing more than another 3D movie; back in the day, you could LISTEN to a great film on your radio with your eyes closed!

Avatar is not the Best Picture; its story has been told a million times before!
Unfortunately, most the movies that were nominated were told a million times before. Although the basis of Avatar is derivative from countless historical tragedies, (director) James Cameron must be given credit for making this story accessible to contemporary film goers. When you point out that Cameron is stealing from history, have you forgotten that history is continuing to repeat itself? Think about the Iraq war and the US’s need to invade and pillage countries to get oil or other resources that don’t belong to us. Didn’t Al’Queda’s attack on the World Trade Center remind you of the milliary’s attack on Home Tree in the movie? Just remember that there are a good majority of other folks in this country who don’t like Avatar also. They are many conservatives who think soldiers should spend the rest of their lives fighting a war that should have never happened. They think the US is right in everything it does and think Avatar is a slap in the face to Americans everywhere protecting what’s ours.

Yes everything old is new again.
In this article I’m screaming out to all award shows: Grammy – Give the TOP HONOR to the singer that wrote all the songs, wrote all the music, and gave a hell of a performance during their shows (didn’t lip sync), and sold the most albums; the quadruple threat artist; the one all others strive to be.
Oscar – Don’t give the BEST PICTURE to the movie that had the highest sales. Don’t give it to the film made by your friend. Don’t give it to the film made by the white man if he didn’t do better than the other man…. and so forth
If you are remixing someone’s song don’t try to pass it off as an ORIGINAL piece created by you; this is what he did; at the end of the day it’s all marketing, his job is to get the people into the theaters and so he did.
“I would like to thank the Academy for showing that it can be about the performance and not the politics.” -Mo-Nique Oscars 2010
I would like to thank Mo’Nique for having the balls to come out and say it; enough of the bull, give credit where due…
